About our family: We have a lot of moving parts in describing our family! Sarah and I have seven children, ranging from 12 to 29. Our oldest daughter, Megan is married and lives in Germany with her husband, Cody and our new grandson, Quinn. Our other daughters – Bekah (23) and Melissa (21) live in the U.S. Bekah is a school teacher in Tennessee, and Melissa works and lives in Minnesota. Our adopted sons – James (15), Gavin (13), Ben (13) and Max (12) live with us here in Uganda. Before our family moved to Uganda in 2019, Duane worked in the insurance claims business, while Sarah worked in our church’s children’s ministry. We are both Colorado natives and are huge Denver Broncos fans – although Duane is also a big supporter of Arsenal of the English Premier League.
In the Bible, I relate strongly to:
Duane - Nehemiah. This is a man that had a great set up, but was directed by God to do something huge from the world’s perspective. He was willing to risk everything for a cause and a people that many others were not concerned about.
Sarah - Moses. When God called him to lead the Israelites out of Egypt, he didn't feel qualified for the job God was giving him.
In my spare time, I enjoy:
Duane - I enjoy spending time with my family. Also, with four boys, sports of any type are a part of our free time. Over the past 10 years I have developed a love for hiking and backpacking – getting to see God’s creation “up close”.
Sarah - Reading, listening to music, and being outside and enjoying what God has created.
My favorite quote:
Duane -“When you truly accept that those children in some far off place in the global village have the same value as you in God's eyes or even in just your eyes, then your life is forever changed; you see something that you can't un-see.” - Bono (U2)
Sarah - “When the train goes through a tunnel and gets dark, you don't throw away the ticket and jump off. You sit still and trust the engineer." - Corrie Ten Boom
My most heart-felt prayer is:
Duane - That I would prove useful to God – that He would use the “shelf-life” that I have left to do something that will impact His kingdom well.
Sarah - To reflect the love and grace of God to those around me.
